Beowulf vs Grendel. The point where Beowulf is grabbing Grendel's arm in preparation to rip it off.

Outstanding work. Those are some sharp teeth.

I used this for a post on Tolkien's "Beowulf: The Monsters and the Critics." truemyths.org/2015/01/14/conce…

Hope that's cool!

Ever since reading John Gardner's "Grendel" that scene is much sadder to me.

They watch on, evil, incredibly stupid, enjoying my destruction.

"Poor Grendel's had an accident," I whisper. "So may you all."

Wasn't Grendel a Dragon? I could be mistaken I read the Seamas Haeney reverse.

Most depictions of Grendel and his mother portray them as being trolls or ogres of some kind. In the poem he is stated to be a descendant of the Biblical Cain, but some traditions hold Cain to be the ancestor of all giants and monsters. Peter Dickinson argued that Grendel and his mother could have been humanoid dragons, but Grendel's exact appearance is not actually described in the original poem. Beowulf did fight a dragon, though.

There is also a dragon in Beowulf but no, Grendel was not a dragon.

This is great! Would you mind if I used it when I teach the story? I always like to give my students good visuals to help them while reading, and this would be perfect.

The movie wasn't true to the original story at all. Dissappointing.
